How curvature determines the carrier

Admissible curvature systems, Friedrichs representation and the invariants of the resulting carrier.

Specify the metric, the reference configuration and the closed curvature form. Together they determine the positive carrier used throughout the field.

4. The Canonical Spectral-Curvature Generator KK

4.1 Admissible monotone curvature systems

Definition 4.1. Admissible monotone curvature system.

An admissible monotone curvature system is a triple (X,M,x∗)(X, \mathcal M, x_*) consisting of:

  1. A local state space XX with reference point x∗x_*, a complex Hilbert tangent carrier H∗\mathsf H_*, and a dense Hilbert form domain V↪H∗V\hookrightarrow\mathsf H_* continuously embedded in that carrier. Local perturbations x∗+ux_*+u, u∈Vu\in V, are described in a chart.

  2. A real functional M\mathcal M of class C2C^2 near x∗x_* in the VV topology, normalized by M(x∗)=0\mathcal M(x_*) = 0 and dM(x∗)=0d\mathcal M(x_*) = 0.

  3. A densely defined, closed, Hermitian, nonnegative form QMQ_{\mathcal M} on H∗\mathsf H_*, with domain VV, whose real part is the real second variation: D2M(x∗)[u,v]=Re⁡QM(u,v)D^2\mathcal M(x_*)[u,v]=\operatorname{Re}Q_{\mathcal M}(u,v).

For an ordinary bounded Hessian one may take V=H∗V=\mathsf H_*. The form-domain formulation also includes unbounded curvature representatives. For example, on ℓ2(N)\ell^2(\mathbb N) let

V={u:∑j≥1(1+j2)∣uj∣2<∞},M(u)=12∑j≥1j2∣uj∣2.V=\left\{u:\sum_{j\ge1}(1+j^2)|u_j|^2<\infty\right\},\qquad \mathcal M(u)=\tfrac12\sum_{j\ge1}j^2|u_j|^2.

Weighted ℓ2\ell^2 completeness makes Q(u,v)=∑jj2uˉjvjQ(u,v)=\sum_j j^2\bar u_jv_j closed, and M\mathcal M is C2C^2 on VV. Its representative is Ku=(j2uj)jKu=(j^2u_j)_j, with domK={u:∑jj4∣uj∣2<∞}\mathop{\mathrm{dom}}K=\{u:\sum_j j^4|u_j|^2<\infty\}. Thus smoothness in the form topology is compatible with an unbounded KK; Fréchet C2C^2 smoothness in the carrier norm would instead give a bounded Hessian.

4.2 The canonical generator

Theorem 4.2. Canonical spectral-curvature generator.

Let (X,M,x∗)(X,\mathcal M, x_*) be an admissible monotone curvature system with curvature form QMQ_{\mathcal M}. There exists a unique positive selfadjoint operator KMK_{\mathcal M} on H∗\mathsf H_* such that

QM(u,v)  =  ⟨KM1/2u, KM1/2v⟩for u,v∈dom(QM).Q_{\mathcal M}(u,v) \;=\; \langle K_{\mathcal M}^{1/2}u,\, K_{\mathcal M}^{1/2}v \rangle\qquad \text{for } u,v \in \mathop{\mathrm{dom}}(Q_{\mathcal M}).

Proof. Direct application of Theorem 3.1 (Friedrichs representation) to QMQ_{\mathcal M}. ◻

We write K:=KMK := K_{\mathcal M} and call it the canonical spectral-curvature generator.

KK is canonical given an admissible monotone curvature system. The CSCF does not claim to construct KK from bare lawhood. Where physical or lawful realization supplies an admissible monotone (or a Tier-0.50.5 carrier with explicit generator), KK is forced.

4.3 Functional dependence and base data

Lemma 4.3. Spectral data invariance.

The spectral measure EKE_K, spectrum σ(K)\mathop{\mathrm{\sigma}}(K), and W∗(K)W^*(K) depend only on QMQ_{\mathcal M} and H∗\mathsf H_*.

Lemma 4.4. Direct sum compatibility.

If (Xi,Mi,x∗(i))(X_i,\mathcal M_i,x_*^{(i)}), i=1,2i=1,2, are admissible monotone curvature systems with generators K1,K2K_1, K_2, then (X1×X2,M1⊕M2)(X_1\times X_2, \mathcal M_1\oplus\mathcal M_2) has generator K1⊕K2K_1 \oplus K_2.
