5. Inner scaling and preparation-dependent passage
5.1 Orient the Riccati equation
Let and .
On the outgoing leg , , so and
Upper-fold delay means ; lower-fold delay means . Set
With and , the inner equation on bounded sets after stable transients is
The identities , fix the normalization. With dimensionless , restored units of are , and have units time, amplitude-rate and one. Positive rescaling of changes consistently and leaves invariant. The fixed normalization is used in the projection measurements.
5.2 The incoming stable branch selects the solution
For the attracting stationary branch and restoring rate satisfy
Preparation on this branch at fixed input distance gives regular tracking until a shrinking fold neighborhood. After fast errors settle, the critical error obeys
The moving reference has derivative ; the stable block has a uniform gap and is controlled by Lemma 4.1. A sufficiently large makes invariant after the initial transient while is small. On its boundary restoring loss dominates forcing and quadratic error; boundary speed is lower order. At overlap , , this gives and .
The limiting incoming Riccati solution is
Indeed turns into ; has the incoming asymptotics, with the sign in (41) from differentiating . At fixed large entrance , (40) gives as . Along the negative branch sensitivity contracts by , of order to a fixed inner interval. First let on compact intervals, then . This selects (41), unlike setting .
Theorem 5.1 (Tracked-preparation local delay). At either complete fold, prepare on the incoming attracting branch at fixed positive input distance, or in a sufficiently small fixed attracting neighborhood there. Let through the fold. For sufficiently small fixed outgoing level , the first crossing at of
after incoming and stable-direction transients satisfies
where is the first zero in positive .
Proof. On compact intervals , matching and continuous dependence in (38) give , so cannot reach fixed positive . For the upper bound choose large outgoing and with . Inner convergence gives the crossing at . Bootstrap up to . Choose small enough that the cubic term is bounded by . The remaining terms divided by are controlled by , tending to zero at fixed ; helps on this positive- interval. Therefore , giving
This closes the bootstrap for fixed . The limsup of the scaled exit is at most . Sending gives . This proves the smaller-order remainder, without an explicit full-source finite-rate constant.
5.3 Exact-fold and finite-inner preparations
For finite initial the quadratic solution is
If the ratio is not finite, use the proportional Airy combination directly. The first forward zero of its denominator determines passage when the preparation is in the outgoing class. Starting exactly at gives , with distance from the moving graph by (31), smaller than the inner critical scale. The Airy initial values give and
The same compact-inner and exit bounds give
The coefficient is about 15 percent smaller. Neither constant is preparation-independent. Errors of order in critical preparation or in input reference can change the scaled initial state and pole. Smaller errors preserve it if stable errors settle, for instance to in the complement. Larger unsettled stable errors need their own induced-critical-error estimate. A small fixed perturbation before a long stable approach can decay before reaching the inner region, a different preparation tested below.
6. Which switching event is measured?
The measured departure in (42) uses the same calibrated full-state projection in both models. It does not use amplitude only or reconstructed stationary memory. The numerical levels are . No certified chart radius containing them is claimed. The asymptotic theorem applies to sufficiently small fixed local levels; these declared levels provide finite-rate evidence.
For the exactly quadratic reduction use for tracked preparation or for exact-fold preparation, and choose the first outgoing root
Then . Since at its simple pole, for fixed
The full cubic terms and stable graph need not preserve this subleading coefficient. Equation (48) is an exact quadratic comparison, not a fit or a general next-order theorem for the full source.
For sufficiently small , the bound in (44) gives traversal time at most , hence an input difference. A physical-amplitude level in is a different surface. It inherits the leading delay only with a justified bounded-time return from the local exit or a local transverse change of observable.
Once the connection is established, entry into a fixed-radius neighborhood of the other stable state adds bounded time, giving an input correction. An shrinking regular tracking tube must be large enough to contain the moving-reference offset. Exponential settling then adds time and input; a smaller tube need not be entered. The calculations localize projection exits and assess complete capture at the reversal and return. They do not report first asymptotic arrival or a separate amplitude event.
